Refrigerant Diagnostics

The Refrigerant Diagnostics course teaches the foundational knowledge needed to correctly and accurately troubleshoot refrigerant-side issues in residential and light commercial heat pump and A/C systems. Students will learn about refrigerant flow characteristics and how to measure and interpret actual operating conditions in order to determine underlying problems. This course provides an in-depth understanding of how to use pressures, temperatures, superheat and subcooling to diagnose systems problems.

Numerous example scenarios are presented and worked through in class in order to drive home the practical application of this knowledge to real-world situations. Students will also learn about how different types of metering devices affect the presentation of problems and how to interpret the operating data effectively to form an accurate diagnosis and avoid callbacks. This course emphasizes refrigerant side troubleshooting best practices based on years of real-world experience.
