Gas Furnace Service & Installation

This course focuses on teaching the foundational knowledge that must be understood in order to properly service and diagnose issues with residential and light commercial gas furnace systems. Students will learn how to professionally service and maintain gas furnaces in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations and requirements.

Topics include learning the “sequence of operation” of a modern gas furnace and how it relates to accurate testing and troubleshooting procedures. Additionally, students will learn about safety considerations, system operating characteristics, gas heating system components, gas combustion and related concerns, as well as electrical components and test procedures. Both condensing and non-condensing furnaces will be discussed, along with condensate drainage requirements. Students will also learn about proper control board wiring and configuration, gas pressure adjustment and verifications of proper airflow and heat exchanger temperature rise. Emphasis is placed on using meters and test instruments to safely and accurately diagnose gas furnace system issues correctly the first time in order to reduce customer callbacks and complaints.
